Wax Preservation
NPC employs an industry standard preservation method of aluminum foil and Saran™ wrap followed by a strippable plastic (wax) coating.
NPC oilfield experts use a rig site certified, explosion-proof wax bath to coat the wrapped core sample in a hot-dip, strippable plastic that’s specially formulated for encapsulating core materials.
The approximately 2 mm-thick coating sets rapidly to create a robust barrier that prevents the loss of in-situ fluids from the core samples during transportation and storage. The plastic coating is easily removed at the laboratory prior to analysis, allowing core sample quality to be protected from chemical or physical alteration for up to 10 years.
